KUALA LUMPUR: PMB Tijari Bhd (PMB Tijari) aims to increase its Shariah-compliant financing, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to RM600 million by 2022.
The financing allocated by PMB Tijari for the three-year period, a subsidiary of Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB), is expected to help 400 Bumiputera entrepreneurs with the potential for continued growth.
Its Chief Executive Officer, Wan Sazriz Wan Zaid, said that PMB Tijari, established in 2014, offers three products: Al Ijarah (leasing), Murabahah, and Tawarruq.
"To date, we have provided RM200 million in financing to approximately 100 entrepreneurs. This amount is expected to reach RM300 million and help 200 local entrepreneurs by the end of this year.
"Our goal is not just to provide financing to potential entrepreneurs but, at the same time, to nurture successful Bumiputera entrepreneurs who are capable of competing globally," he said in an interview in Kuala Lumpur recently.
Wan Sazriz stated that PMB Tijari's goal is not only to channel financing but also to be a 'partner' in helping launch business operations.
"We have a vision to become a significant player in providing Shariah-compliant financial solutions for the domestic market and eventually on a global scale.
"What is a priority is delivering the best value and high-quality financial services in the industry, particularly for entrepreneurs who receive less attention from banks and other financial institutions," he said.
He mentioned that they currently offer both short- and long-term financing with a ratio of 60:40.
"The financing period offered ranges from less than a year to three years. We also focus more on companies that are already at the commercial stage and have high potential to secure project offers.
"At the same time, we are working to increase the availability of short-term financing to help more local entrepreneurs obtain loans," he said.
So far, he said, the sectors receiving the most financing from PMB Tijari are the information and communication technology (ICT) industry and logistics.
"We are not confined to any specific segment when providing this financing service because we want to give as many opportunities as possible to entrepreneurs out there.
"The maximum financing provided to each entrepreneur is RM5 million, but in certain cases, this amount can be increased depending on the suitability and needs of the business sector," he said.
