Kuala Lumpur: PMB Tijari Bhd (PMB Tijari), a joint venture between Pelaburan MARA Bhd (Pelaburan MARA) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group, has allocated RM200 million in Shariah-compliant financing specifically for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) this year.
Its Acting Chief Executive Officer, Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin, said this allocation is higher than the RM180 million provided from 2014 until last year, and it is expected to benefit 40 local entrepreneurs.
He stated that the flexible financing, which is based on the current needs of the companies, involves a maximum amount of RM15 million and is aimed at helping SMEs with specialized business expertise but facing capital constraints to start their businesses.
"PMB Tijari offers flexible financing to local entrepreneurs, especially SMEs that are unable to obtain bank loans because they are still new in the business. This is a requirement for SMEs, and we have come up with a specific financing scheme, which is open to all business sectors.
"What is important is that the SMEs must have specific expertise in the business they are engaged in and must have business opportunities, including government contracts or those from government-linked companies (GLCs)," he said.
PMB Tijari, which began offering financing in 2014, has provided RM180 million in financing to 83 entrepreneurs from 2014 to last year, and all these SMEs successfully managed their business operations and secured various contracts in diverse fields, including manufacturing, production, and food.
Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah, who is also the Chief Operating Officer of Pelaburan MARA, said that although the financing is offered to new companies, the approval requirements are relatively easy. PMB Tijari only takes two to three weeks to disburse the financing after completing the due diligence process.
"Our due diligence is based on credit application standards, where we place more emphasis on entrepreneurial development rather than strict financial requirements, unlike other financial companies," he said.
